Have you ever lacked confidence while negotiating, whether it was a salary or during high stakes collaborations?

Description:

This beginner level session is the first part of OCPD's Negotiation Series, it was specifically created to help people gain confidence and self-awareness in any negotiation preparation process.

At the 2017 Women's Career Advancement Symposium, UCSF attendees learned about the gender pay gap and how wage inequality affects individuals, society and the economy. While there are many factors that contribute to inequality, building skill and confidence in the art of negotiation is one of the most immediate ways that can help women advance in their careers. Thus based on popular demand and feedback from attendees, this workshop focuses on the next step in that conversation, how to prepare and position yourself as a strong negotiator.

In this interactive session, attendees will assess themselves, discuss their long-term life and financial goals, and identify their negotiation style, while also getting the opportunity to practice and learn about different negotiation approaches.

By the end of this session, you will be able to:

  • Identify the bigger picture of what's at stake in a negotiation
  • Recognize and explain why you can't accept a negotiation offer
  • Identify and assess your negotiation style
  • Practice beginner level negotiation skills and different approaches

Please Note:

  • Due to the interactivity and depth of material covered, this program will start promptly at 12:05pm. Late attendees may not be able to participate.
  • Lunch will be provided during this session. Please be sure to register for this event in order to secure your meal

The Women's Career Advancement Series was created as a direct result of UCSF female students and alumni asking OCPD for more help with questions around strategic positioning, confident communication, and negotiation. However we recognize that everyone can benefit from learning more about these professional skills and strategies, as well as how to support more equitable workplaces. Therefore all UCSF students, postdocs, and alumni are welcome to attend this interactive session.
